Exhibition Display and Lighting Design | Using Design Language to Tell Eternal Elegance

Gabrielle Chanel’s‘ Fashion Manifesto ‘was exhibited in the famous Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

In the display design, pure lines, clean space proportion and eternal elegance form the basis of the exhibition, and also form the space narrative of the exhibition. This is an extraordinary journey, tracing back the life and career of Gabrielle Chanel.

The space takes visitors to places that Chanel often frequents, from La Pausa to the iconic Campon Street staircase, while other spaces embody the timeless elegance elements of her design.

Her love for grandeur and restraint is reflected in the exquisite beige, gold, white, and black tones, and the luxurious variations in surface textures showcase her innovation in materials; From the luster of black lacquerware to the softness of beige. The dynamic lighting and AV content are dancing, increasing or decreasing the pace of time. The fusion of light and sound enhances the immersive experience, allowing visitors to marvel at the magic of Chanel. This exhibition aims to pay tribute to the inheritance of Gabriel Chanel.

Lighting design firm Studio ZNA, together with creative teams Storey Studio, The Bon Ton, and Luke Halls Studio, showcases this top fashion collection in a novel, fashionable, and dynamic way.

Lighting design is the key to allowing visitors to appreciate these masterpieces up close, highlighting exquisite details, styles, textures, and materials, presented in low light to ensure the protection of the displayed items, while creating bright and elegant multi-level lighting scenes in the exhibition world they are in.

Inspired by the Storey Studio approach to display design, lighting designers suggest that visitors experience exquisite displays under subtle changes in lighting, moving between outdoor and indoor, rural and urban environments from morning, noon, afternoon, dusk to evening.

This is sometimes abstract. For example, in the refreshing morning light at the entrance, and in the perfume showroom, the designer created the effect of the light beam passing through the golden liquid perfume bottle. In other times, in the evening dress part, the subtly changing mottled light is more suggestive, which not only supports the theme narrative, but also arouses the mood, meditation and surprise of the visitors, triggering emotional resonance.
